Physical Education & Sport

The PE Department is committed to creating a positive learning experience, building confidence, improving fitness and promoting a healthy lifestyle for all pupils.

We pride ourself on making PE accessible to all pupils, regardless of ability, encouraging full participation in PE lessons and providing a variety of extracurricular sporting opportunities.

There are a wide range of extracurricular activities to suit all interests, enabling every pupil to reach their potential in their chosen sport. These take place during the lunch hour and after school, and provide opportunities for skills taught in lessons to be consolidated and developed.

Sports Scholarships are available for pupils entering Year 7. Sports scholars are expected to involve themselves fully in the sporting life of Farringtons and lead by example. Read more about our Sports Scholarship...

All students in Key Stage 3 have five periods of PE/Games each week.

BTEC Level 2 Sport comprises of four units that cover the fundamentals of fitness (for sport and exercise), analysis of the performer, leadership in sporting activities and designing exercise programs for the individual performer. The course is delivered through a mixture of both practical and theoretical based lessons both inside and outside of the classroom. The assessment takes the form of one exam at the end of unit one and coursework for the following three units. The course is equivalent to one GCSE.

In the Sixth Form students can select to take a Level 3 BTEC in Sport. The course is made up of units covering many different aspects of sport and PE including Anatomy and Physiology, the short and long term effects of exercise, designing training programmes and sports development. It combines a mixture of both practical and theoretical elements that can help students not only improve their knowledge but also develop their coaching skills and performance.
