Ukraine Trip 2015

Over the summer holiday a group of our pupils, from Years 10 to 13, took part in a charity outreach programme in the village of Makoshino, in northern Ukraine.

Our students camped for two weeks with 100 Ukrainian children in what was essentially a tented village, where they were taught Arts and Crafts, English, First Aid and Sport lessons. Students also undertook a number of other fantastic activities, including:

  • Taking part in work experience placements within the kindergarten and hospital;
  • Visiting a Disabled Orphanage where they were able to meet and talk with the children;
  • Performing a dance and song routine to a 400 member audience, comprised of local villagers, at a concert held in the Palace of Culture;
  • Playing a charity football match against the village team.

As well as giving support to the local area in Ukraine – the hospital, kindergarten, Palace of Culture and local school – the trip provides an excellent opportunity for our pupils to develop new life skills and experiences, whilst being immersed in a new culture. We very much look forward to the possibility of continuing to run a similar trip in the future.
